Understandably, significant historical debate flourishes around any relative or ambiguous terminology; therefore, it should be of no surprise the topic of the ‘modernization’ of the United States garners little consensus. While some historians see elements of modernity in the widespread political participation of the initial decades of colonial settlement, others focus on the economic and demographic diversity of the eighteenth century as their focal point. Contrasting historians insist the American Revolution became the catalyst for permanent change, while still more contend westward expansion and the conclusion of the Civil War mark the time of the United States’ ‘arrival.’ The innate relativism of ‘modernity’ insures from the outset of debate that no one will be right, and that no one can be wrong. One historian’s vision of ‘modern’ will inherently be distinct from the next. However, as futile as the debate over the beginnings of modernity may be, readers can still gain much from such research. In 1973, just one year after Brown’s â€Å"Modernization† article was published, Murrin co-authored an article with Rowland Berthoff titled â€Å"Feudalism, Communalism, and the Yeoman Freeholder: The American Revolution Considered as a Social Accident.† Although Brown is not included in the citations the two article’s descriptions of mid-eighteenth century colonial society are remarkably similar. Personal Statement My Career - 999 Words

I have a pretty good idea what I want to do career wise in the future. I do not want to limit myself to just one particular career because I have many career interests. I believe I would be able to work at some of them in different stages on my life. As some of my options build off each other meaning, for some I need about 10 years experience in the field and other I just need maybe a few months and a degree. So I would be able to work at the lower level, such as: Business Consultant, Human Resource, Budget Analyst, ones as I begin in the work force to get my experience up and then one I gain the experience I would be able to work at the high jobs such as: Chief Financial Officer, Certified Public Accountant, and CEO. All of the occupations that I am considering are pretty aligned with my interests, values and skills. They all are in the business field and offer room for growth. Answer: Introduction Motivating company employees makes them have an interest in the future of the company, and therefore, will always exploit their full potentials at work. Motivated people are always full of the desire to accomplish given tasks. This paper examines various motivational theories that can be used in improving employee engagement. The various theories will be discussed as well as how they boost the employee engagement. The paper also discusses the relationship between the theories. There is close relationship between all the motivation the ories in that, in all of them, the employees must meet regardless of their different levels or stages or ranks in the workplace. It is attributed to Abraham Maslow, a Jewish, whose parents had migrated to Russia. According to Maslow, the basic needs of an individual must be met for one to be motivated to achieve their maximum potentials in their endeavors. In this hierarchy of needs, he translated it into a triangular design, where the bottom or base of the triangle represent the most basic need, to the top most, where an individual realizes their self-actualization (Miner, 2015). According to his believes, individuals are always motivated to satisfy their basic and general needs. The needs should be met, one after the other, which means that one cannot satisfy the upper needs before satisfying the lower or bottom needs in the hierarchy (Elliot, Dweck and Yeager, 2017). The needs on a particular level of the pyramid must be completely met, otherwise there will be a possible stagnation or fallback to the initial needs in the pyramid. Psychological needs refers to those needs that one can never do without their availability. Clothing, water and food can be described as basic requirements for every living person. These needs are mandatory, and should be met for one work or perform any activity. Individuals safety or security is the next level in this hierarchy. The environment should not pose any possible threat to individuals, or members of their families. Safe environment provides for consistency and stability necessary smooth flow of work (Latham, 2012). Financial security plays a critical role as well since it provides an assurance of a better future. Financial security is met by ensuring proper salaries, provision of insurance and job promotions. After security is the sense of love, which is the third in this hierarchy. Workers should always feel loved and feel included as part of the team. This refers to the sense of acceptance by other group members or employees. The second last in the hierarchy is esteem, w hich is essential since it comes from an individual. This need gives a person to feel confident of the work he or she is assigned. It also, encompasses the respect from the rest of the colleagues. The final stage is the self-actualization. For an individual to attain self-actualization, all the other needs must have been satisfied (Lunenburg, 2011, p.4). This is the level where the full potential of an individual is achieved. According to Maslow, individuals cannot reach their maximum level of self-actualization. Individuals always try their best to utilize their talents and gifts in various ways, therefore, it is always important to motivate workers by meeting their needs so as achieve subsequent levels and realize their self-actualization levels (Roca and Gagne, 2008). Chip Conley, who started the Joie Vivre chain of hotels applied the hierarchy of needs to its management. This led to an enormous growth of his business, where he saw the need of helping his employees to perform their individual roles. He valued the individual contribution of the employees, and therefore, team members realized that they are being respected and recognized. The employees were motivated, and thus, worked hard. For every business to succeed, they need to organize their employees and offer full support. Employees need to be supported either in their respective work places or outside work place. All their needs, such as flexible working hours, among other basic needs should be served. By meeting their needs, the engagement at work will subsequently increase (Meyer and Gagne, 2008, p.61). Apple Inc. also, applied the Maslows theory in their management. Most of the companys focus is to meet the needs of their individual workers, from the most basic, up to the higher level needs. The company offers good salary to their works, and apart from this, the employees are acknowledged in form of rewards such as percentage of up to 5 of their monthly salaries. This gives the employees a greater motivation as well as a feeling of recognition of the work they are doing for the organization. Other rewards includes giving them material products of the company such as iPhone or mac gadgets. Two-Factor Theory This theory of motivation was developed in 1950s by Fredrick Herzberg, who was a psychologist. From the research he conducted, he concluded that performance of employees is directly connected to their mental health (Lundberg, Gudmundson and Andersson, 2009, p.892). The theory is closely related to Maslows theory of the hierarchy of needs. The data used in the research was obtained from two hundred individuals who were engineers and accountants by profession. They were asked about their feelings (either positive or negative) about their work. The outstanding factors that he concluded from the research were the motivator and hygiene factors. Motivators focuses on work, where satisfaction is realized. It includes several factors such as recognition, growth or progression and work itself. Hygiene factors are those that may lead to the general dissatisfaction as well as lack of motivation is they unavailable. Business policies, salaries, working conditions, mutual relationship between management and the employees, benefits and personal life are some of the examples. The organization have partial control over these factors. Factors such as individuals behavior and personal relationships are out of control of the organization (Albrech, 2011). According to Herzberg, there is a clear distinction between the job satisfaction factors and the job dissatisfaction factors. From his studies, he found that progression needs are the main real motivators of the workers. The workers only feed dissatisfied by the hygiene motivators, bur are motivated the rest of the motivating factors. According to Stone and Ryan, (2009, p.80) if a manager desires to fully motivate their employees, then they should create a conducive working environment where all the employees are entitled to equal recognition, growth in terms of job promotion and stimulation. Employees get motivated if they are allowed to feel responsible for the output of the production process or any product produced from the work done. When managers encourage such kind of recognition, the employees will be motivated to attain their individual success, and also, the organizations targets. Most of the workers are encouraged, especially when the work that they are doing are seen by t he management and other colleagues as meaningful (Zhang and Bartol, 2010, p.122). Apple Inc., for example applied the Two-Factor Theory in their management. The employees are always recognized for their efforts in producing the quality product that the company produces. They praise and recognize their employees by offering then bonuses, as well as job promotions in different departments within the company. These are examples of the motivating factors. The workers finds their environment to be challenging and interesting at the same time. In terms of hygiene factors, the salaries of the Apple Inc. employees are appropriate and satisfies the needs of most of their workers. Apart from the good salary that the employees receive, the management offers to all their workers a health care plans. This ensures that the employees feel secure, work in a conducive environment and up to-date equipment that makes their work efficient (Stone, Deci and Ryan, 2009, p.79). Tesco Company in their practice have adopted this two factor theory in their practice, where the employees dissatisfactions are completely dealt with by the management. The management pays attention to all factors that possibly cause satisfaction as well as dissatisfaction. In this manner, the employees feel motivated due to timely response to their communication. The managers should offer a total job freedom to the employees, provide periodic reports on the employees progress and provide specialization to workers as they prove to be achieving best in their respective production sections. Through application of this Two-Factor motivational theory, the employees get motivated and subsequently, there will be an increased employee engagement. Expectancy Theory of Motivation The theory was first initiated by Victor Vroom back in the year 1964. This theory stresses on the final outcomes unlike the Herzberg and Maslow theories that dwells on the needs. According to this theory, the motivation that an individual employee has is as a result of the individuals desire of the reward ahead after completing the assigned task. Once enlisted, keeping in mind the end goal to hold able representatives, administration can utilize many instruments. Their employees are motivated to achieve their tasks through instilling of confidence to individual employees. This results in high performance in terms of the outputs of the companys products. The company is concern on their employees abilities, whereby, they improve their expectancies in their abilities to perform better in accomplishing their tasks. The resources, as well as all the necessary training skills are provided by the company hence creating a positive valance among the employees which will be subsequently translated into success and quality performance. The Four motivators The four motivators can also be included as part of the theories that defines motivation. Identified motivation, intrinsic, introjected and extrinsic (external) motivation are the key motivators discussed. These motivators are well known in increasing the employee engagement. In external motivations, it is predominantly dependent on the environmental characteristics such as rewards given after doing certain given or assigned work (Hsu and Wang, 2010, p.410). In most cases, people work hard just because they are being paid. This means that the better the salaries, the more the effort individuals will apply. As opposed to external motivations, in the intrinsic motivations, people are motivated from within, whereby, they do not require external or material rewards to be provided. In the introjected, a person feels self-motivated to achieve the goals of the organization or individual goals, but, in the event that the person fails to explore or exploit their potential, guilt arises. This feeling of guilty separates the intrinsic and introjected motivation. For the case of identified motivation, an individual neglects what he/she understands it should be accomplished. All these for motivators needs to be identified for the various individuals working in each organization. They are crucial in dictating the employee engagement in the work place. Individuals have varying triggers of motivators which needs to be critically analyzed, and that is the work of the management (Lin and Lu, 2011, p.1156). According to Schunk and Zimmerman, (2012) all the theories of motivation are in harmony, and if the management is keen in observing them, then the engagement of the workers is greatly improved. For workers to be motivated, management need to provide a constant feedback to the rest of the employees, which is essential as it enables to evaluate their performance. Workers will be updated on their progress, understand their strengths and weaknesses and subsequently use the feedback in their subsequent tasks. Their achievements needs to be recognized by the through various means such as rewards (Elliot, Dweck and Yeager, 2017). This boosts their morale and makes them to exploit their full potentials in providing future services to the organization. Effective management motivates individuals and triggers quality engagement of the employees. The employees requires privacy and periods of minimum interruptions which makes them more productive. Minimum interruptions increases the employees con centrations in their respective assigned duties. Providing open periods to employees makes them free to communicate with each other and share ideas (Halbesleben and Bowler, 2007). This interaction of employees boosts their engagement. Google, for example, offers multiple types of rewards to their employees in their quest to boost the motivation of their employees. They offer benefits such as reimbursements for expenses in legal affairs, financial support and medical care support to all of their employees. They also listen to their employees, and at the same time offer flexible working schedules. All these offers motivation, and subsequent improved employee engagement in the work place. Comparison of the Theories All the motivation theories discussed here are similar in the fact that, all create motivation for workers or employees. The Herzberg and Maslow theories have a close similarities as the safety and psychological needs that Maslows theory focuses are equally the same as Herzbergs hygiene factors. Both needs are basic to every living individual. For one to attain or obtain safety status outlined in the Maslows hierarchy, money, hygiene factor (according to Herzberg) must be used or earned in terms of salary. Both theories maintains that certain needs are responsible for boosting individuals behavior. Expectancy theory on the other hand, describes the engagement of employees on certain actions or behavior in their quest to come up with a desirable outcome, which is concurrent to the extrinsic motivation. Expectancy theory explains the reason behind particular approach that the employees use in completing assigned tasks, and extrinsic theory is a basic reason for employee performance in the work place. Conclusion Motivation is the key to employee engagement in every working place. The management, in this case, plays critical role in ensuring that there is good engagement of employees for work to flow smoothly. Motivation ensures flexibility of staff members and general workers. Working hours that are favorable to all employees motivates them, and makes them accountable on every task. The theories also, explains that there should be good flow of communication which is key motivator to the company staff and all the employees. When the senior staff uses appropriate language and other means of communication to the junior staff, all workers feel motivated, and in return, the engagement is greatly improved. Listening to employees and adopting their ideas increases productivity. The motivation theories suggests to the management to be an example to the rest of the junior employees. Employees works and adopts a culture that is set by the senior staff. Just to mention but a few loopholes in the current policy, there is dire need for a new policy that will help prevent rise in the de-legitimization in a more professional way. The new policy will address the issue in all dimensions; social, political and economic. Social in the sense that it will take into consideration the social eff ects of the strategies put in place on the social lives the Israelite as well as those of other people. The policy will take care of the economic factor in that it will be reasonably affordable to implement both financially and time wise. THE NEW POLICY This is a policy that will use communication efforts to help prevent the rising de-legitimization. This policy contains terms and strategies that when implemented will give positive and more effective results. The policy will make it clear that other than using political strategies to fight propaganda, communication can also be used to curb the fast spreading calamity. Using communication means will enable the message to reach more people than demonstrations and boycotts would. Since the challenge at hand is spreading at a very fast rate, an equally fast means is required to counter its immense spread. Therefore, the strategies in this policy are designed to suit the speed at which the propaganda is spread and manage to save the face of Israel in the eyes of the world (Burgoon, Berger, & Waldron, 2000). There are a few main children in this story. The main characters are, Jean Louise Scout Finch, Jeremy Atticus, Jem Finch, Charles Baker Dill Harris, Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. Boo symbolizes innocence even though he isnt a child anymore. The mockingbird also symbolizes innocence. The mockingbird shows symbolism because the mockingbird is innocent and all they do is sing beautiful songs. Killing a mockingbird is a sin. A mockingbird in To Kill a Mockingbird isnt an actual bird, it represents innocent, nice, only could do good, easy target to people in the Book. Like Tom Robinson or Boo Radley. The mockingbird symbolizes underprivileged black people. They are innocent and never would harm anyone just like the mockingbird. Boo Radley is also innocent and would never harm anyone therefore the mockingbird also symbolizes him. Boo Radley never comes out because he does not want to face the prejudice and corrupt world. A mockingbird is a harmless bird that makes the world more pleasant. The mockingbird symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson who were both peaceful people who never did any harm. To kill or harm them would be a sin. Atticus tells Scout and Jem: id rather you shoot at tin cans in the backyard but I know youll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want if you hit em but remember its a sin to kill a mockingbird The mockingbird symbolizes these two characters because it does not have it own song. The blue jay is loud and obnoxious the mockingbird only sings other birds songs. Therefore the mockingbird is seen through the other birds. The people of Maycomb only knew Boo Radley and Tom Robinson by what others said about them. both of these characters do not really have their own song in a sense and therefore are characterized bu other people view points. When Atticus tells Jem and Scout that it is a sin to kill the mockingbird, this refers to the actions directed toward Tom and Boo. It was a sin to dislike Tom and Boo bases on what others say about them. they were punished by the people in Maycomb because they did not have their own voice. There are many people without their own voice in society. As it is a sin to kill these without a voice. The symbolism reveals the prejudice and narrow mindedness of the citizens of Maycomb county their fears and the immoral things they do. The mockingbird ha s a very deep and peaceful meaning in the novel. It represents peacefulness, innocence and kindness. Characters such as Boo Radley can be compared to the mockingbird. Tom Robinson can also be compared to the mockingbird. In conclusion, the mockingbird represents peace, innocence and kindness. Boo Radley went through his life never wanting to hurt a fly. He left gum, pennies, and wax dolls for Scout and Jem. He sewed Jems pants and left them easily. He also saved Scouts and Jems lives while risking his own. Boo was a fragile and gentle person. Throughout the novel, Scout, Jem, and Dill are curious about the mysterious Boo Radley because he never comes outside from his house or associated with anyone in the neighborhood. The children are afraid of him because of all the stories they hear about him from the people in maycomb. For example, Miss Stephanie tells the children that while Boo was sitting in the living room cutting a magazine he drove the scissors into his parents leg, pulled them out, wiped the on his pants, and resumed his activities After hearing stories like these the children consider him to be evil. The kids assume more about Boo because he never plays outside or with anyone and therefore the children are not convinced otherwise. Boo becomes a game and they act out Boo Radley scenarios that they believed to be true. These stories were based on gossip that goes through their neighborhood. Boo Radley can be compared to the mockingbird in the title of the novel. It is made clear in ch.10 when Atticus and Miss Maudie explain that you should never kill a mockingbird because all it does is sing beautiful songs and never hurts anyone and keeps to himself. Yet the title is To Kill a Mockingbird and the townsfolk kill Boo Radley because he is shy and does not come out of his house. He was a kind person, yet he was persecuted by society for being shy and not coming out of his house. The grey ghost is another symbol for Boo Radley whose face was as white as his hands and his grey eyes were so colorless a description fit ting to one of a ghost. At the end of the Book, Scout finally meets Boo Radley after he helps her and Jem escape Mr. Ewell. She finds that her beliefs about him are not true. She finds the songs that the neighbors were putting into his mouth were not true. In the end, Scout says that it would be wrong to put Boo Radley on trial for killing Bob Ewell because he did it in order to protect her and Jem. Scout sees that things look the same from Boo Radleys porch as they do from hers. therefore Boo Radley is a perfect example of a mockingbird and the situation he is in is a pefect example of the title of the Book. Chopping wood and doing whatever he could for Mayella Ewell was Tom Robinsons only crime. Just like Boo Radley Tom never harmed a soul. He risked his own safety by helping Mayella and he did it because someone needed him. It was like a mockingbird being shot down when Robinson was accused of raping Mayella. To the people of Maycomb county, Tom is just a sorry negro, who committed an unthinkable crime. Tom represents the black race in American society at that time and was a victim of racism. Like Boo Redleye, Tom Robinson is characterized by what the people see him as an evil beast. During the trial while bob Ewell testifies, he points to Tom Robinson and says I seen that black begro yonder rutting on my Mayella according to Mr. Ewell, Tom Robinson is an animal who tormented and violated his daughter. Throughout the trial, Tom is portrayed in his manner because of the racist neutrality of the people in Maycomb. Even though there is a sufficient amount of proof which shows he did not commit the crime, Tom is a black man who will be denied justice, Atticus reinforces this idea when he tells Jem in our courts, when its a white mans word against a black mans. the white man always wins Generally this was the mentality of most Americans at the time. Black people did not have their own song, other people sang their song their songs based on beliefs about them. like Boo Radley people only knew Tom Robinson through what others said about him. Boo is the outcast of the neighborhood, but at the time, Tom Robinson was the outcast of the society. Throughout the trial, Scout and Jem believe in Tom Robinsons innocence. They see him for who they believe he is, and do not know enough about racism to be part of it. they did not believe the trial was fair because they believed there was evidence in Tom Robinsons favor. Tom Robinson is another character who can be compared with the mockingbird. He was a genuinely kind person who in the end is destroyed by his willingness to help mayella ewell. Just like a mockingbird, Robinson never hurt anyone. Yet, he was also persecuted by society for his kindness and his race. Tom Robinson is a mockingbird figure in the Book. In the end, mr underwood also compares a harmless songbird that was shot down by a senseless hunter. At the end of the Book, hoever Scout realizes the same about Boo Radley. When she finally meets him, she sees how unfair she had been with him. Boo contradicts everything that the chidren believed about him. The fact that no one realized the unfair treatment of Tom Robinson made his death that much more tragic. Tom Robinson was killed because of his kindness and the color of his skin. Another person who shows symbolism Is Atticus Finch. Atticus Finch shows symbolism because he is seen as a hero when he kills the rabid dog. Jem and Scout did not know their father was such a godo shoorter and they were very surprised to see him shooting. with movements so swift they seemed simultaneous. Atticuss hand yanked a bolt tipped lever as he brought the gun to his shoulder. The rifle cracked. Tim Johnson leaped, flopped over and crumbled on the sidewalk In a brown and white heap. He did know to hit him Atticus is a father in that he shows love to his children. Atticus always tells his children shooting a mockingbird is a sin because they dont do any harm. They are innocent creatures that make music. Atticus is a lawyer, he is a faithful servent of justice for all people, black or white. His wisdom lies not in his education but in the way he raises his children and his knowledge of peoples attitude. Atticus showed his courage when he accepted the Tom Robinson case even though he knew before hand that it was a lost battle. He advises Scout and Jem not to get carried away by peoples provocation and sets the example when he does not react to bob ewells threats. Atticus is the only one who refers to peoples prejudice as disease. He accepts the Robinson case in an effort to fight against that, even though he is sure to fail. Atticus is the only lawyer in maycomb that would represent a blackman. Atticus is seen as a hero for he kills racism and prejudice, not allowing it to spread any further. In a conversation with his brother. Jack bout the coming trial and how to get Jem and Scout through it without bitterness and most of all, without catching maycombs usual disease Atticus is a hero model to the community. Attius Finch, as well as his two children, who follow in his footsteps. A place that shows symbolism would be the tree outside the Radley hosue. Another place and object that shows symbolism is the snowman, the fire in miss maudie atkinsons house, are examples of symbolism. The snowman that Jem and Scout made infront of miss maudie atkinsons hosue one winter was an example of symbolism. There was not enough snow for the snowman so Jem used dirt for the foundation and then covered It with the snow that they did have. The snowman is symbolic in that Jem is trying to cover up the black man and showing that he is the same as the white man. The fire in miss maudie Atkinsons house shows symbolism in that it shows the prejudice of maycomb. The fire melted the snow from the snowman and left nothing but mud. The fire shows that blacks and whites are nothing alike. The fire and the snowman are not the only symbols of prejudice. Tim Johnson is another symbol of prejudice. Tim Johnson represents prejudice, and how, like a rabid dog, it spreads its disease throughout the town. The symbolism reveals the prejudice of the citizens of maycomb, the fears they have, and all of the dishonest things they do. It also reveals an attempt to get rid of these feeling in maycob by a hero to the community, Atticus Finch and his children who will follow in his footsteps. Symbolism is basically what the Book is about. If this book did not have any type of symbolism it wouldnt be complete.

As a student, I think that It Is more enjoyable if a teacher explains the lessons In a certain subject with some twists or making stories that would hook the interests of a student. It is not only for students to be interested but also the information is easy to understand and remember. Humor helps things suck In our minds. The story teaching real analysis in the land of making is a great idea of Julie Barnes. Teachers who tell good stories can make subject interesting or easier to relate to. It helps the student to do better In the exams Like what the students of Julie Barnes experienced.She said that roughly 90% of her students told her that the story had made the material much easier for them to understand, remember, and use. So every year, she used the story and she always got the same positive results. It helps us to understand some definitions found in a standard introductory real analysis. The story had made learning calculus simple because it is stated in a child friendly way . The author used the deferent symbols In calculus as Its character In the story The equations there are easy to remember.For Students it is more interesting eating tales and stories more than memorizing all the equations and definitions in calculus without twists. When you read tales or stories, you can easily remember the equations by recalling the story of King Epsilon. Julie Barnes is Just so great. It's not easy to make a tale or a story especially when you are relating It to math definitions or a certain equations. It Is an Informative story that teaches us a lot of things about calculus. The story was about a certain tale of convergence in the real line. There was a king named King Epsilon who lived In the Castle Analysis.HIS wife named Queen Delta already died. There are many citizens living on a subset of a real line. In the country, there was a caste system, and everyone is ranked. The king himself would not allow them to call him by a natural number. He was never part of the natural order of things. King Epsilon had a collection of laws of the kingdom. It is a brilliant idea to a lot of problems that the citizens of the real line have dealt with for centuries. He had a Rule 1 which is the convergence day. During convergence day, King Epsilon would decree the most citizens must travel o a certain place.King Epsilon realized that it is very important for all of his decrees to be obeyed. So he declared that If the subjects didn't comply with a convergence day there would be an extra tax imposed on all the citizens. He asked some of his advisors about this and came up with the following observation. There was never a need to Impose the tax for noncompliance of Rule 1 . HIS Rule 2 Is Cauchy days. He realized that having too many convergence days would actually be harder on the citizens on the real line than not having enough convergence days. He met a young authenticate named Cauchy came to King Epsilon with an Idea.He suggested that instead of specifyin g a town and having a convergence day, these could be simply be days when the citizens have to get together. For any given distance epsilon the lower class citizens would have to be within epsilon of everyone else. There comes this year of hurricanes. It was not uncommon for king epsilon to order mass evacuations from the real line into a parallel universe. King Epsilon proposed was the Hurricane Evacuation Policy where the government must find a parallel universe to evacuate as soon as possible. All citizens must travel to the new world on magic carpets via a function.Once a functions is chosen, there are two things are of great importance to every citizen: The size of the warp zone that needs to be traveled through the entire world and how magic carpets are measured. King Epsilon was a great king who is very kind and an intelligent, brave man. His love for Queen Delta is definitely wonderful for he has named a certain area to his queen so he could remember her all the time or whenever he went at that area of the country. In fact, as the grooming operations demonstrate, customer contact with low contact segments can decrease performance. 4.What should Dr. Barr have done differently to avoid the problems she is currently experiencing? Based on the graph, the steeper the slope, then the faster the reaction and vice versa. Conclusion and Evaluation In this experiment, the effect of concentration on rate of reaction was investigated. We did this by reacting marble chips (calcium carbonate) with hydrochloric acid, and recording the expelled mass loss of carbon dioxide as the concentration of hydrochloric acid began to drop. The carbon dioxide loss in mass over time was used to calculate the rate of reaction. In chemistry, the rate of reaction is used to describe how quickly a reaction happens. It is defined as the measure of the amount of reactants being converted into products per unit amount of time. In our case, we measured the amount of hydrochloric acid and calcium carbonate being converted into carbon dioxide in 20 seconds intervals. There are several ways to vary and experiment with a rate of reaction. Students can observe a change in volume of gas produced, change the transmission of light in the experiment, change the concentration using titration or even change the concentration using conductivity. For this experiment, we observed rate of reaction by a change of mass. We calculated our rate of reaction by dividing the grams of carbon dioxide released by 20 seconds. Because 20 seconds was a constant divisor, the more mass of carbon dioxide released, the greater the rate of reaction. We also calculated the concentration of HCl left and observed the relationship. Based on our processed data, the lower the concentration, the greater the rate of reaction. For example, after 320 seconds, 2.00 g of carbon dioxide was expelled when the concentration of HCl was 0.182 mol dm-3. This gives a rate of reaction of 0.1 g of carbon dioxide produced per second. At 20 seconds, 0.70 g of carbon dioxide was released when the concentration of HCl was a whopping 1.364 mol dm-3. This gave a rate of reaction of 0.035 g CO2 per second, which is 0.065 g more than the aforementioned low concentration. The two graphs confirm this conclusion. As time goes on, the mass of carbon dioxide expelled increases, while the concentration of hydrochloric acid decreases. A lower concentration of hydrochloric acid causes more carbon dioxide to be expelled and thus lead to a greater reaction rate. I was quite shocked by our results. I thought that with a higher concentration and more molecules moving around, there would be a better chance of reactions taking place. However, this experiment shows that it was in fact the other way around. Perhaps, with a lower concentration of hydrochloric acid, there needed to be more carbon dioxide expelled to balance out the equation. With fewer moles of hydrochloric acid and lower concentrations, the equation was most likely out of proportion. In an attempt to make up for the lower number of moles, more carbon dioxide was released. Limitation Significance Improvement Tearing of cotton wool when it was being removed from the flask and then losing the torn cotton. When the cotton wool was being removed, some it may have been torn off. As a result, the mass could be a lot lighter than it should have been. When taking out the cotton, damage should be limited so that everything is accounted for and a more accurate carbon dioxide mass is achieved. Be very careful when removing the cotton to avoid any tearing. If a piece of cotton is accidently torn off, do not throw it away! Keep it and weigh it so that it is accounted for. Experiment was not performed until carbon dioxide stopped being expelled. The data was limited. Carbon dioxide was still being produced and there were still 0.091 moles of hydrochloric acid left when the experiment was stopped. Do not finish the experiment until there is no more carbon dioxide being expelled. This way, we get a better idea of the limits and possibilities of the reaction rate and how far it can go. Timer was not started the same time the marble was entered. Some marble could have been left inside the solution for a longer or shorter time than others. As a result, carbon dioxide values could be lower or higher than they should have been. The timer should be alert and there should be communication between the partners. The timer needs to begin once the marble chips are placed inside, and it needs to be removed right after twenty seconds. By maintain a steady time of twenty seconds, we can properly assess the reaction rates without adding another independent variable of time.

Everyone in the literary world is familiar with Shakespeare's two â€Å"star-crossed lovers† Romeo and Juliet. Their love story, doomed by fate and feuding families has been an inspiration to many other literary works, movies and even music. Yet it is unknown what makes these couple’s story to popular and interesting across the globe. Is it their youth, their love of first sight quickly followed by their terrific death, the tragic events that lead to their demise, or a mixture of possibilities? One aspect of the play that causes an image in the reader' mind and has a profound impact is the exquisite language of Shakespeare. The language gives each character a distinct personality and character; each character has a different sense of humor, wit and love. Shakespeare’s words show society in Verona, different beliefs, values, and behaviors in both men and women are present in his play. The main characters of the play, Romeo and Juliet, are even affected by these be liefs and value, but mainly role of gender. Men in Verona are violent, sexual dominant, and take priority in deciding what happens or doesn’t happen. Every action they take is an expression of showing to the other men how dominant and powerful they are. The men choose violence as their first choice of solving their problems for example: in the opening scene, the Capulets and Montagues get into a brawl for no apparent reason other than their long feud. The two noble families do not get along well particularly due to the feud between them, the Capulets and the Montagues. During their first brawl, on of the servants of the Capulets, Sampson, states: â€Å"’Tis true, and therefore women, being the weaker vessels, are ever thrust to the wall; therefore I will push Montague’s men from the... ... â€Å"If that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word to-morrow† (2.2.143-144). Juliet’s mind is obsessed with sexual thoughts more than a woman of her time. Her thoughts are portrayed as words times before they marry, â€Å"O, I have bought the mansion of a love, but not possess’d it, and though I am sold, not yet enjoy’d. So tedious is this day† (3.2.26-28). Juliet defies her parents many times when they are attempting to marry her with Paris. She hastily disagrees with them eventhough she is not supposed to. At the end of the play, Romeo becomes very heartbroken and feels great melancholy as he is seeing his beloved lying cold in the tomb and takes his life with poison, a method of suicide mostly committed by females. Juliet, upon seeing her husband dead, stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger in a violent manner reflecting her masculine personality.

Facts: Billie J. Rodman, Appellant was employed by Presbyterian Hospital as a unit secretary for eight years when, on Feb 17, 1987, she was terminated under hospital personnel policies following a â€Å"third corrective action† notice. Prior restrictions had been placed on Rodman’s conduct due to personal problems adversely impacting upon her place of work. Rodman was reprimanded in June 1986 for receiving an inordinate number of personal telephone calls and visitors at her work station, which was disruptive to her own work and to her co-workers. Rodman was to have no personal telephone calls during work hours outside of a designated break or dinner time, in which event they were to occur in an area not visible to patients, physicians, or other department staff. When leaving the department for dinner, Rodman was to report to her immediate supervisor and was not to leave the hospital. Rodman was to make every effort to resolve the matters in her personal life that were causing problems at work. Nevertheless, according to the testimony of her supervisor, extremely disruptive telephone calls continued. The doctors were beginning to comment on it. The staff was getting more distressed. According to her supervisor, â€Å"[A]gain we talked about the visits, the behavior at the desk. When it got pretty bad with the phone calls, Billie would slam charts, push chairs and be a little abrupt with the people she worked with.† Another written reprimand in November of 1986 warned Rodman that her job was in jeopardy if the disruptive behavior continued. The supervisor established restrictions prohibiting the claimant from having visitors at the department and instructed her to notify security if there was a potential problem. On February 15, 1987, Rodman began work at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. She had spoken to her boyfriend’s mother earlier  in the day to tell her that she did not want him to use her car as she had broken off their relationship. The boyfriend’s mother called her at work and told her the boyfriend had her car keys. Rodman told the mother to h ave the boyfriend call her at work. When he did, she informed him that she could not talk to him at her duty station, and he hung up on her. He called her back and left a number where he could be reached. She left the work area and went to the break room to call him. After returning to her duty station, Rodman got another telephone call from her boyfriend who told her to go downstairs to the lobby to meet him and pick up the keys. When she refused, he told her that if she did not come down he would come up to her department. Claimant left the department to confront her boyfriend, and, because her supervisor was at lunch in the hospital cafeteria, Rodman notified a co-worker, a registered nurse, that she was leaving. Rodman testified, â€Å"I didn’t want any kind of confrontation at the desk, so I went downstairs.† Before she left her desk, Rodman called the employer’s security guard and asked him to meet her in the lobby because she anticipated that a problem could develop. When Rodman got to the lobby, her boyfriend started yelling and forced her outside. In doing so, he tore her shirt. At this point the security guard arrived and observed them arguing. Rodman was in the passenger seat of her car. The security guard instructed the boyfriend to return the keys, but the boyfriend jumped into the driver’s seat, locked the doors and drove off. About thirty-five minutes later, Rodman returned to her work station, after having changed her torn shirt. She resumed working, but, as the shift progressed, more telephone calls were received for her in the department. The supervisor became frustrated with the volume of calls and the behavior of Rodman. It was determined that Rodman should be sent home. Thereafter she was terminated. Issue: At Issue is whether the misconduct which warranted termination from unemployment rose to the level of misconduct which would warrant denial of unemployment compensation under NMSA 1978, section 51-1-7 of the Unemployment Compensation Law. Whether the events of a third party constituted the â€Å"last straw doctrine.† Rule: â€Å"[M]isconduct† * * * is limited to conduct evincing such wilful or wanton disregard of an employer’s interests as is found in deliberate violations or disregard of standards of behavior which the employer has the right to expect of his employee, or in carelessness or negligence of such degree or recurrence as to manifest equal culpability * * *. [M]ere inefficiency, unsatisfactory conduct, failure in good performance as the result of inability or incapacity, inadvertencies or ordinary negligence in isolated instances, or good faith errors in judgment or discretion are not to be deemed â€Å"misconduct† within the meaning of the statute. Application: Rodman had a history of wanton or wilful disregard for the employer’s interest and was discharged for the accumulation of those events, including the precipitating event. Rodman’s conduct on February 15, considered in light of totality of circumstances including her previous history or personal phone calls and unauthorized visitors, showed a—willful or wanton disregard for her employer’s interests–. Rodman did not comply with her previous restriction put on her by her employer which was ground’s enough for termination and denial of unemployment benefits. The last straw was applied in this case due to Ms. Rodman’s totality of circumstances. Conclusion: Decision was affirmed by the courts in light that Ms. Rodman’s actions on February 15, which when it was considered in light of restrictions that where upon her previous failure to comply with those restrictions, demonstrated a willful disregard for her employer’s interests.

When applied to a literary work (such as a poem, short story, or essay), analysis involves a careful examination and evaluation of details in the text, such as in a  critical essay.  Maybe youll discuss theme, symbolism, effectiveness of the work as a whole, or character development. Youll use a formal writing style and a third-person point of view to present your argument. As the writer, you will come up with a topic to analyze the work of literature around  and then find supporting evidence in the story and research in journal articles, for example, to make the case behind your argument. For example, maybe you want to discuss the theme of freedom vs. civilization in Huckleberry Finn,  analyze the effectiveness of satirist Jonathan Swifts criticisms of government at the time, or criticize Ernest Hemmingways lack of depth in  his female characters. Youll formulate your thesis statement (what you want to prove), start gathering your evidence and research, and then begin weaving together your argument. Introduction The introduction may well be the last piece you write in your analytical essay, as its your hook for the readers; its what will grab their attention. It might be a quote, an anecdote, or a question.  Until youve gotten your research well in hand and the essay well formulated, you probably wont be able to find your hook. But dont worry about writing this at the start. Save that for a bit, until your drafting really gets rolling. Thesis Statement The thesis statement, which is what youre setting out to prove, will be the first thing that you write, as it will be what youll need to find support for in the text and in research materials. Youll likely start with a broad idea of what youd like to investigate and then narrow that down,  focusing it,  as you start your preliminary research, writing down your ideas and making your outline of how you want to present your points and evidence. Itll appear in the introduction after the hook. Supporting Examples Without examples from the text, your argument has no support, so your evidence from the work of literature youre studying is critical to your whole analytical paper. Keep lists of page numbers that you might want to cite, or use highlighters, color-coded sticky notes- whatever method will enable you to find your evidence quickly when it comes time in the essay to quote and cite it. You may not use everything that you find in support, and thats OK. Using a few perfectly illustrative examples is more efficient than dumping in a load of tenuous ones. Keep two phrases in mind when preparing an analysis: Show me and So what? That is, show me (or point out) what you think are the significant details in the text (or speech or movie- or whatever it is youre analyzing), and then, regarding each of those points, answer the question, So what? What is the significance of each?What effect does that detail create (or attempt to create)?How does it shape (or attempt to shape) the readers response?How does it work in concert with other details to create effects and shape the readers response? The So what? question will help you to pick the best examples. Sources Youll likely need to have a works cited, bibliography, or references page at the end of your essay, with citations following an existing style guide, such as MLA, American Psychological Association (APA), or the Chicago Manual of Style. Generally, theyll be alphabetical by the source authors last name and include the title of the work, publication information, and page numbers. How to punctuate and format the citations will be spelled out in the particular guide youre to follow as a part of the assignment. Keeping good track of your sources while youre researching will save you time and frustration when putting this page (as well as your citations in the paper) together. When Writing In writing an analytical essay, your paragraphs will each have a main topic that supports your thesis. If a blank page intimidates you, then start with an outline, make notes on what examples and supporting research will go in each paragraph and then build the paragraphs following your outline. You can start by writing one line for each paragraph and then going back and filling in more information, the examples and research, or you can start with the first main paragraph and complete one after the other start to finish, including the research and quotes as you draft. Either way, youre probably going to reread the whole thing several times, flesh things out where the argument is incomplete or weak, and fiddle with sentences here and there as you revise.   When you think youre complete with the draft, read it out loud. That will find dropped words, awkward phrasing, and sentences that are too long or repetitive. Then, finally, proofread. Computer spellcheckers work well, but they wont necessarily pick up where you accidentally typed bet for be, for instance. Youll want all of your paragraphs to support your thesis statement. Watch where you get off topic, and cut those sentences. Save them for a different paper or essay if you dont want to delete them entirely. Keep your draft on the topic you stated at the outset, though. Conclusion If directed in your assignment, your analytical essay may have a concluding paragraph that summarizes your thesis and main points. Your introductory hook could make another appearance in the conclusion, maybe even with a twist, to bring the article back full circle.
